I am not able to dive into the technicalities of it, but I can tell you that the car will maintain the 80% charge, when it is plugged in and no time limits are set on the charger (if it is a smart charger), so, logically, and what I have noticed, the car might preheat using the battery, but it will also top up the battery with what was lost to preheating to maintain the 80% SOC.
